Joseph Pilates

The Pilates Method was developed by Joseph H. Pilates over ninety years ago using concepts from yoga, martial arts, meditation, biomechanics, and exercise physiology. Immensely ahead of his time in his innate understanding of human muscle-skeletal function, Pilates was a competitive boxer, skier, body builder, circus performer, and conditioning therapist. He trained law enforcement in self-defense, rehabilitated victims of the 1916 flu epidemic on the Isle of Man, and after emigrating to New York, taught his method to generations of dancers, athletes, and those needing rehabilitative exercise. His unique regimen, mostly unknown to the general public until twenty years after his death, is now one of the fastest growing in the world. Why? Because it works for every body!
